Raj Chandra Bose was a renowned Indian Mathematician and Statistician. He was born in 1901 in Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh. He finished first in Masters in Mathematics from University of Calcutta despite losing both his parents during his teen years. He later joined Asutosh College as a lecturer and started publishing his works on the differential geometry of convex curves. In 1932, P. C. Mahalanobis, director of Indian Statistical Institute, offered Bose a part-time job and in 1935, he got full-time job in the same institute which proved to be the turning point of his career. In 1940 he had joined the University of Calcutta and in 1945, he became the HOD of Statistics He was well known for Design theory and the theory of error-correcting codes. He also authored a few books based on Mathematics and Statistics, most notably with Samarendra Nath Roy and P. C. Mahalanobis while at Indian Statistical Institute. He was awarded a D. Lit degree in the year 1947 on his submitted paper on multivariate analysis and the design of experiments.
