C. S. Seshadri is an eminent Indian Mathematician known for his work in algebraic geometry. Born in the year 1932, he received his B.A. (Hons) degree in Mathematics from Madras University in 1953 and completed his Ph.D. from Bombay University in 1958. He worked in the School of Mathematics at TIFR in Bombay, IMSc in Chennai and was also the founding director of the Chennai Mathematical Institute. He also served as a visiting professor at University of Paris, France, Harvard University, Cambridge, UCLA, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan among many others. He has also received numerous accolades including Srinivasa Ramanujan Medal from the Indian Academy of Sciences, TWAS Science Award, Fellow of IAS, INSA and a Fellow of the Royal Society and is also the recipient of the Padma Bhushan in 2009, the third highest civilian honor in the country.
