Statistical proportional relationships are defined as the two variables where their ratios are equivalent. In other way it can be explained as, one variable is always a constant value times the other. That constant is known as the "constant of proportionality".

Let’s have a look at the below example:

Given that y varies proportionally with x , find the constant of proportionality if y=47 and x=4 .

Write the equation of the proportional relationship.

y=kx

Substitute the given x and y values, and solve for k .

47=k?4

k=11.75
