The second law of thermodynamics states that the net entropy of a system within an isolated system will always be zero. In other words when a hot body and a cold body are in contact with each other, heat energy will flow from the hot body to the cold but an experiment conducted by researchers at the Brazilian Center for Research in Physics (CBPF) and the Federal University of the ABC (UFABC) has now confirmed that the presence of quantum correlation could suddenly affect this dynamic arrow of energy which means that heat can spontaneously flow from a cold object to a hot object without the need to put in any external energy. In the current experiment the direction of flow was reversed without violating the second law of thermodynamics. The most important factor to be taken into account is that this experiment suggests a process by which the addition of external energy can be replaced by correlations with the process of quantum refrigeration.
